Rainy Mondays

Rainy Mondays always feel good to me... like it slows the universe down a bit while we re-sync with the workaday world.

It was good to be abed and asleep by 10 last night; allowed me to hit the ground with the alarm and not be draggy and laggy with my early AM routine. Which allowed me to get to the gym "on time" which allowed me to work out without a paranoid eye on the clock, stop at the coffee shop for a good second cup and be at the office a bit early.

Lunch time will hold a mission to secure another large bag of tea lights.

I do not feel like this was a particularly good weekend as far as accomplishing things went... I only crossed 1 1/2 things off my list...but that is better than none.  I need to get the business taxes done soon, so that will be my biggie for next weekend, as well as spending a large chunk of time down east. The Cape Lookout Seashore is having a wine and cheese reception to unveil their new exhibit design (3-5), the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum & Heritage Center is having their annual Volunteers Oyster Roast (5:30 -) and the tiny burg of Marshallberg is having a fundraising shrimp dinner ( 11 am - ?) to save their working harbor. So we will be down east most of the afternoon and into the evening.

That leaves this week for productive creativity... Lessee if I can do it!

Yule
Crab Trap Trees

Core Sound Christmas

The fishermen come back from the sea
Through darkness and fog
They pole their skiffs across the sound.
Boats guided to dock through the treacherous waters
By Lookout's flashing light
Skiffs guided as well by flickering lanterns,
The lights of home appearing slowly through the fog
Was it their faith that made them brave
Or just necessity of time and place?

Now their ghosts come walking
Through Solstice mists,
Though we ply the fog and darkness by road -
A treacherous journey still, through the marshes –
Guided by Lookout, still, the flickering lights
Of Yuletide trees welcome home
The lone fisherman and the returning student,
Home for Christmas on the sound...
A renewal of faith that only comes
'Midst fog and marsh grass and
the quiet sounds of home.
